Philosophy

We believe that no other educational activities are as rewarding as participation in debate. Debate and competitive speaking are fun and exciting. Debaters learn best by debating. Speakers learn best by speaking. Thinkers learn best by thinking. We work to create a comfortable environment where students can learn by bringing it all together, with the guidance of caring and experienced coaches.

The HDI seeks to accommodate a diverse range of debating styles. In all the debate events, there is a range of practice in debate style and philosophical approach. Rather than impose a particular style of argument or delivery, HDI aims to offer student debaters exposure to the range of available styles so that they are able to respond to any approach to the activity, whether traditional, alternative, or cutting edge. Our focus at the HDI is to engage personal development of logic, research abilities and independence that will create an effective debater who will ultimately empower other students within their debate squads.
