Dates, Prices, and Housing Info


DATES:
Hurricane Debate Institute
June 7-19, 2009
University of Miami

TUITION/FEES:
Commuter I - $650.00 (9:00am - 4:30pm)
Commuter II - $975.00 (9:00am - 9:00pm)
Resident - $1400.00

A commuter would live within daily commuting distance to the University of Miami, normally within the Miami-Dade/Broward vicinity. Anyone living outside of that vicinity would have to reside in Residential College housing and would be considered a resident. Both Commuter II and Resident schedules would run from 9:00am-9:00pm.


DUE DATES:
May 06: Notification of interest of resident option
May 15: Completed applications and $150 non-refundable deposit.
June 01: Remainder of fees due ($500 for Commuter I; $825 for Commuter II; $1250 for resident)


PAYMENT LOGISTICS:
Checks should be made out to “UM Debate.” We are happy to accept all major credit cards. For instructions, please call Professor Steinberg at 305-284-5553 (during business hours) or email him (dave@miami.edu).

HOUSING:
Please contact Professor Steinberg (dave@miami.edu) by May 6 as to your interest in resident housing. The resident option includes a meal plan, night supervision, Miami activities, and, more importantly, greater debate instruction.

You will stay in the Pearson Residential College. (This is subject to change.) You can find Pearson on this map of the beautiful Coral Gables campus.

Check-in
Students may arrive and check in on Sunday, June 7. Students should arrange for their plane flights to land at MIA some time after 12 noon and before 5:00pm on Sunday, June 7. Please email your flight information to both the HDI Director, David Steinberg (dave@miami.edu) and the HDI website director (hurricanedebateinstitute@gmail.com) so we can track your arrival times.

We will have a MANDATORY resident orientation meeting at 8:00pm in the lobby of the residential college to inform you of the regulations set forth by the college staff.

Check-out
Students may check out after 5:00pm, Friday, June 19, but before 12noon, Saturday, June 20.
